چکیده

This paper presents the application of active contour models (Snakes) for the segmentation of oral lesions in medical color images acquired from the visual part of the light spectrum. The aim is to assist the clinical expert in locating potentially cancerous cases for further analysis (e.g. classification of cancerous vs. non-cancerous lesions). In order to apply the conventional snake formulation, color images were converted into single-band images. A number of different single-bands were evaluated including those resulting from the original and normalized RGB, perceptual HSI space, I1I2I3, and the Fisher discriminant function. Examples of Snake segmentation results of oral lesions are presented.

A New Algorithm for Skin Lesion Border Detection in Dermoscopy Images

Background: With advances in medical imaging systems, digital dermoscopy has become one of the major imaging modalities in the analysis of skin lesions. Thus, automated segmentation or border detection has a great impact on the subsequent steps of skin cancer computer-aided diagnosis using demoscopy images. Since dermoscopy images suffer from artifacts such as shading and hair, there is a need ...

Computerized Lesion Segmentation on DCE-MRI using Active Contours and Spectral Embedding

Introduction: Accurate lesion segmentation is an important component of determining quantitative features for lesions on MRI. In this study, we develop an automated lesion segmentation method for delineating lesions on dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE)-MRI. We present a new active contour model which uses spectral embedding (SE), a process that partitions images in order to maximize intercluster ...

Wavelet Transform Based Automatic Lesion Detection in Cervix Images Using Active Contour

Colposcopy is a medical diagnostic procedure to examine an illuminated, magnified view of the cervix by a colposcope. Most cases of cervical cancer can be prevented through screening programs aimed at detecting precancerous lesions. Colposcopy cervical images are acquired in raw form which contains major cervix lesions, regions outside the cervix and parts of the imaging devices such as speculu...

A New Computer-Aided Detection System for Pulmonary Nodule in CT Scan Images of Cancerous Patients

Introduction: In the lung cancers, a computer-aided detection system that is capable of detecting very small glands in high volume of CT images is very useful. This study provided a novelsystem for detection of pulmonary nodules in CT image. Methods: In a case-control study, CT scans of the chest of 20 patients referred to Yazd Social Security Hospital were examined. In the two-dimensional and ...

A new efficient active contour model without local initializations for salient object detection

In this paper, we propose a fast and effective polarity-based active contour for salient object detection in grey-level images and color images. The adopted variational level set formulation forces the level set function to be close to a signed distance function and therefore completely eliminates the need of the re-initialization procedure and speeds up the curve evolution. Moreover, instead o...
